Spring has sprung! The flowers are blooming the trees are no longer bare. And the greatest thing of all?? THE SUN IS FINALLY SHINING!! After, no joke, 4 months of gray skies, the sun has decided to make an appearance and we couldn't be more grateful. I was beginning to convince myself that we would never see the sun in Berlin. It seemed that overnight, spring decided to arrive, and with it came a new and very vibrant Berlin! The many cafes in our neighborhood are now bustling with tables spilling onto the sidewalks, street musicians are perched on every corner, and the tourists are out in full effect. Best of all....people are SMILING! The year-round temperate weather in California sure was nice, but we realize now that there is nothing like spring after a long, cold winter.
Some signs of spring here in Berlin:

There you are! I was beginning to think you had forgotten about us Californians! Your spring break looked wonderful. Thank you for all the pictures. It's fun seeing the "world" through your eyes and your commentary really adds to it. How exciting to meet up with distant family! Not sure if you've heard but we have a bad fire burning in the Foothills called the Jesusita Fire. Kellogg school was closed on Friday because we were in the Evacuation Warning area. The fire has burned 8200 acres so far with over 80 homes burned. It's been a scarey one!
Hi Laura, I was so happy to hear from you and apologize for not writing sooner. It has been a year filled with surprises. You probably know that the Learning Center returned to the kindergarten room, making Linda,Tracey, Shampa, and me happy campers! Remember Adrian? He improved greatly and scored HIGH in his testing and went back to his regular, 5th grade.(Sue West) classroom. He was thrilled--told me, "I graduated back to my class".
The year has gone quickly. Our CA State has financial problems and and is cutting back money for Education and Nursing. Many teachers have received PINK slips and things are tight every where. Obama has turned our country upside down, as well as our CA Govenor upsetting our state! Can't believe what I see happening.
I sold my Jeep (as it was too much of a vehicle for me)and now have an '05 Chrysler PT Cruiser. Wanted a Honda or a Toyota but there were none available in my price range. I do like my PT but it is PURPLE! I call it my Purple Plum ! It is a 4 door sedan, and has nice storage -perfect for me.
Because of Obama's new money plan, Chrysler and General Motors are closing MANY of their dealerships--so sad for the many who are being laid off and can't find a new job! Chrysler in SB still is open.
Don't mean to sound gloomy but our world is different from when you were here. Am sure you hear U S news from your family.
Haven't observed Christa but think she is doing OK. She is engaged. I see Lynn once in awhile & we talk about missing you. Lynn will be a grandma this summer, June, I think ?
Hi Laura,
Am happy that you and Matt like your jobs. Enjoyed your pictures on this blog and encourage you to travel, travel, travel all you can.
Do you have an e-mail address for me to write you, or do I use your blog ?
Enjoy your beautiful Spring.
Think of your often.
Love, Shirley
